My First DAR Meeting Today , October 20th, 2014

Debbie with her foxy mother Shelva
I attended my first DAR meeting today.  DAR is Daughter’s of the American Revolutionary War.  I have wanted for years to become a member of this historic membership.  My Ancestors on my mother’s side were among the very early settlers that came to America in early 1600’s to Virginia.  Our known ancestor William Johnson born in 1755 on the eastern shores of Virginia, fought for the freedom of this county in the American Revolutionary War.  For his service he was awarded land grants in Kentucky and Virginia, now known as West Virginia.  William Johnson and his family came to Nicholas county Virginia in 1798 and are the ancestors of many Johnson families living in the area still today.  My mother and her sister Shirley are the only ones that left the area in our family branch.  My Mother Shelva  moving to Texas in 1959, her sister Shirley living in Florida.  It has been over a 40 year journey for me in the discovery of my Johnson ancestors.  I’m so excited to become a member of the DAR.  I’m working on the family record process of showing records that prove the linage of my ancestor William Johnson to me.  Finding ancestors about the Johnson family and opening the Johnson family line up for me has been a miracle story in my life that I would like to share:  Family research given to Deborah Symes by Beulah Summers of Summersville Nicholas county, West Virginia in May of 1998.
Beulah's mother is Minerva Johnson.  I visited Summersville in 1998 staying with my grandmother Beatrice Bailes.  My grandparents are John Wesley Bailes and Beatrice Sparks Bailes.  My grandfather John Bailes, his parents are George Washington Bailes and Sarah Margaret Johnson,  this is the linage where my Johnson family line begins, My great-grandmother Sarah Margaret Johnson.   My two week visit there I wanted to find out more about my great-grand parents James Johnson & Ruhanna Grose.  I knew nothing about the Johnson family line and wanted to find out more.  I wanted to find a relative that had information on the Johnson family line.  I had read about a William Johnson in the history of Nicholas County.  He fought in the American Revolutionary War and there was a tombstone marker placed by the Daughter's of the American Revolutionary War in his honor.I had only a few days before my trip was coming to a close.  I had not been able to come in contact with any Johnson family relation.  I knelt in pray that morning asking Heavenly Father to please help me to find some living relative that could help me in my family research of the Johnson family.  I knew this William Johnson was a 4th generation great-grandfather.  I just had not tied into the family line yet.  After my prayer I felt the strongest impression to go visit this Tomb marker of William Johnson.  I called Irene Dotson president of the Historical Society in Summersville to see if she could tell me how to get to this grave marker.  She gave me directions to a Mary Lunter who lived by the marker.  She would take me to see it.  I was so excited!!  It was a lovely drive, the setting is just beautiful where great-grandfather William Johnson is buried.  I was told I would never find the grave marker by myself.  The grass was yea tall and hard to see without some assistance.  Mary and her husband took me to where the grave marker was erected.  I took pictures.  Mary then said, by the way, the Lady next door to the grave marker is a member of the historical society and asked that you stop by to visit with her.  Sure, I said. I loved visiting with all these folks.  They are all so friendly and have been very helpful in my family research.  I had made lots of new friends while visiting the community of Summersville, West Virginia.  Lo and behold the Lord surely did hear and answer my prayers!!  A connection I would have never made on my own.  Beulah Summers the lady that lived next door,  her mother is a Johnson relation.  They owned the land where the grave marker is.  Beulah's mother had spent a lot of time doing family research.  Beulah was very gracious in giving me copies of the information her mother has collected on the Johnson family line.  I was so very excited!!  Beulah made this comment to me.  Coincidence is a small miracle in which God chooses to remain amongst us. ( To Be Faithful) by Ann Hill.  By listening to the strong impression I needed to go see the grave marker of William Johnson I was able to make a connection to my Johnson family line.  I would have never made on my own.  I truly felt Heavenly Father's guiding hand in my life this day in guiding me to find out about my Johnson ancestors.  Information recorded in this Life Sketch is from these records passed on to me by Beulah Summers, someone who I'm eternally grateful for.  From this journey back in 1998 I’m still slowly working on connecting the Johnson family members as I find them.  I have added the history accounts passed on to me by Beulah and this has given me a great foundation to work with and has been a road map for me in verifying family names in the source records that I have been able to locate.  16 years later technology has grown so much over the years and makes it so much easier to find records of my ancestors.  The LDS church has a wonderful website with so many of our family names added to their family records.  In reviewing our William Johnson I have found that they have 25 children listed to this family which I know is not correct.  It has been overwhelming to me to take the time to clean up the family file.  Family Search has asked us to go thru our family lines and look for mistakes and work together in completing the correct family information.  I’m so grateful for the family history information that I collected from Beulah in 1998,  this information has been very helpful in adding history information about the Johnson family that is not found on the family search website.  I’m trying to take the time to figure out why there are 25 children listed for our William Johnson, when I know there were only about 8 children.   I can see there is duplication and some Johnson ancestors that do not belong to our William Johnson family line.  Going to my DAR meeting yesterday motivated me to come home and take a look at the Johnson family line and see what I can do to help clean up the family file.  This is going to be a huge project for me!! Going to get out all that I have collected from Beulah and go thru my Johnson family files in detail to look for missing pieces and make corrections that are needed and to add the valuable information to Family Search that is not listed at this time.  History information is very helpful and adds life to the history of our ancestors for others to read and learn about.

This Has Been A Very Nice Sabbath Day

Mother and I attended our Ward today 9-12pm we then came home for a potty break and then headed out to take the Chaudhry boys to Church in their Ward.  After sacrament we headed to Stacy's home to see how the knew baby is doing She's now one week old.  It has gone by really fast this past week.  Baby Farrah is a beautiful healthy baby.
I really felt the spirit in church today and so grateful to be attending with my mother.  She has been here for three weeks now.  It has gone so fast. She is slowly adjusting and is doing better emotionally and  is feeling better too, she really enjoyed going to church today with us.  Sitting thru another sacrament does make for a long day!!  Our meetings have been very up lifting to our souls. I'm so grateful for the gospel in our lives pray I may be be of service this week to others and an example of Jesus Christ in all I do!!  This seem to be the theme at church today doing for others what they can't do for them selves, giving service for the living and the dead!!  May I do my part this week and be faithful in saying my prayers daily and reading my scriptures.

Beautiful Fall Day

Craig picked up the boys yesterday and we spent the entire afternoon working in the yard.  The weather is beautiful!!  The Chaudhry boys all 4 of them were great workers.  They were eager to earn some money and they kept working.  We got a lot done.  It is another pretty day and I'm going out in the yard again to finish up before the cool weather does hit,  I'm  going to enjoy this beautiful fall day!!

Cornbellys

We took all the grandkids to Cornbellys tonight.  That was a huge task for us as Grandparents.   It was really crowed with kids everywhere.  Little Lincoln ran off twice and we had to all look for him.  It was hard keeping up with the little kids.  Sharlena & Dave came with their four kids.  We picked up Saydee, Karlee, Boston, and Jude.  Tasha met us there with her three little ones. Shannon was meeting us there but couldn't find parking.  She went to our home to wait.  After our fun we all meet afterward for ice cream and dinner at our new favorite place Leatherby's Ice Shop.

Helping Care For Stacy Today

Monday Sept 14th, I watched the boys yesterday and then went to the Back doctor with Craig, his is following up on his back MRI scan.  The doctor said physical therapy would be the best for now to help Craig's back.  It has been really hurting him the past few months. After his doctor appointment we stopped by his office to get a flu shot.  Mother watched the boys for us while we were gone.  We kept Jude and Yael until Chad picked them up about 8pm last night.  Today I had a doctor's appointment with mother, trying to find the right doctors for her.  We were there for about three hours and then came to Stacy's to help her out Stacy needed her mother to help care for her.  She was frazzled when I arrived and so glad to have her mommy here.  Little Farrah is so precious!!

Farrah Lynn Towner arrived last night at 10:53
6.4oz 18 3/4 in. long

Baby Towner is here!!

I finished Stacy's baby quilt today just in time. I took the quilt to her about 5pm and Stacy had just started her contractions, as we visited her contractions became 5 minutes apart.  And hour later she called the mid wife.  I went home for a couple of hours and came back about 8pm.  I had told Tasha I would baby sit all three of her kids for the night.  She arrive about 6pm so fun to see baby Aniston.   We had house full because Shannon drop off her three boys to work in the yard and then they were going out to dinner.   It was a little crazy with Bridger & Tasha, their kids and the three Chaudhry boys.  Lincoln had jumped off the bed and Landon pulled the bean bag out from under him and Lincoln fell landing hard on the floor and hurt his foot.  Bridger yelled at Landon and scolded him.  Landon was devastated and cried for over 20 minutes. Lincoln was soon feeling better from his hurt foot but, Landon was hurting from hurt feelings.  He is a tender little boy.  I held him and comfort him while he cried. With that all going on Stacy called to let me know it was time to come over.  Tasha & Bridger cancelled their date and left for home.  Shannon soon arrived to pick up their boys.  I hurried over to Stacy's home.  Yes she is having the baby at home!!

What a brave daughter!!   Little baby Towner was born at 10:53 pm. They named her "Farrah".  Stacy did really well in delivery.  It is such a miracle to witness the birth of a baby!  I can't believe how brave and strong our Stacy Lee is!  Having her baby girl at home was an amazing experience!

Working on Stacy's Quilt Today.

It's Saturday October 11th and Stacy still has not had her little one.  This has been a busy week with Mother and the family.  I have really wanted to get back to working on the quilt I started before I left for my Texas trip a month ago now.  I had to stop working on my baby projects for Stacy.  Today I'm going to finish the baby quilt and get started on the bumper pads for her baby bed.  It is going to all be really darling when I get it done.  Craig went to the Lake this weekend with Michael so this frees up my day to work on the quilt.

My Heart Stress Test

Sunday night I had another one of those attack that I had in June this year and have felt it was my hear, pre- heart attack symptom.  Sunday was really scary for me, because I went limp suddenly and felt really bad chest pain.  I was so tired and felt my eyes rolling back in my head.  It really scared me.  Craig took me to the hospital emergency.  We were there for over 6 hrs and nothing was found out of the ordinary.  They schedule me for a stress test this Thursday Oct 9th.  I had the test yesterday and it was the most terrible test I never want to do that again!  So far the result are good.  My heart is good!!   It has been a concern with heart attacks and strokes in my mothers side of the family and my own mother having two heart attacks.  I don't know what my body is doing, I have had those odd spells.  Time will tell, just glad to know my heart is strong and healthy!  Sigh of relief!!

Busy helping Mother

Since my return from Texas, I have been busy helping mother with her bills!!! Setting her up on online bill pay.  When I got to Texas she only had $300 in her checking account.  She has about $2,500.00 coming in monthly so she has got to live on her budget.  I now have power of attorney to help her out. We still need to go over all her credit cards and get some of them paid down.  She is over $60,000.00 in debt.  She has just been out of control.  I will try to help her dig herself out.

Wednesday At My Obygn Appointment

I had a doctor appointment scheduled today,  So I'm sitting here waiting for my lab work to be done.  I'm feeling chest pain today.  I felt much better yesterday and worked in our yard for the morning.  Mother and I went to Kneader for lunch and then I ran to Costco to picked up a few things we needed,  from there we meet Shannon to go to the beauty supply store.  I had a busy day yesterday.  Today I took the time to clean up and arrive for my doctor appointment at 11:am. I had to fast for my blood test, now waiting for my lab work to be done.  It was supposed to be a 10 minute wait but it is 1pm and I'm still waiting.  I work at the temple tonight so I'm going to have to hurry home.  I have my heart stress test schedule for tomorrow afternoon.  This is my week to be at the hospital and having everything checked out for my Health!!

Trip To The ER

We just got home from our long drive to the lake.  Terry & Cherie Spinks had just arrived to sleep over for the night.  I went in the basement to help mother.  I dragged down a mattress pad to help make her bed more soft for sleeping.  She was missing her bed, we got this done and I was helping show her how to turn on the TV and then log mom on her computer when I started having really bad chest pain, like I had in June.
When it first came on I thought it was a strange pain like a gallbladder attack but it be came more intense.  I ran upstairs to take some baby aspirin and drink some water.  I suddenly became very sleepy and weak .  I could not keep my eyes open.  I told Craig he needed to take me to the hospital.  I hated to go yet I knew this was not normal and needed to be checked.  We stayed at the hospital from 9pm to about 3am in the morning.  My levels all came back normal but said they were going to schedule me for a stress test this week.  Something strange did happen.  I felt my chest ache like a tooth ache all day Monday and felt so very tired.  The attack Sunday night really knocked me down!!

Saturday & Sunday Conference Sessions

My Mother Shelva her new hair style that Shannon did for her
We stayed home this weekend with the anticipation of Stacy having her baby.  We worked in the yard between sessions.  Conference was very inspiring as always.  Themes-" Following the Prophets" and "Staying close to the Spirit", in our daily lives by saying our daily prayers, reading the scriptures daily a must for spiritual protection and having family night and family prayer faithfully.  Craig & I have gotten lazy and need to do better in out spiritual growth,  I was reading the Book of Mormon daily until I went to Texas. This threw me off my routine.   I need to do better and consistent in my daily prayers and scripture study. Sunday was just as inspiring,  I'm always sad when the conference ends!!  We drove up to the lake for the afternoon session to drop off the boat to store for the winter.  On the way we stopped to visit the Thomas family.  Baby Anniston is so darling!!  From there we headed to the lake.  It was a beautiful Autumn drive.  It was a quick trip!!  We drop the boat off and then Craig was ready to turn around and head back.  He had filled up 5 gallon gas cans on the back of the swim step of the boat.  The strap broke on our way up and we lost them full of gas.  Craig was not happy!!  We headed back the way we came hoping we would find his gas cans, no luck we never saw them on the way home.  Home sweet home we were beat after riding in the car over 5 hrs.

Busy Week With Mother Here

It has been a week now with mother here.  It has been an adjustment for her, she is doing good so far.  This past weekend was conference weekend.  We wanted to go to the lake but did not dare go far until  Stacy has her baby.  Her due date  is October 4-10th, no baby yet.  Friday, mother and I went over to Stacy's home to see what I could do to help her. She needed her baby room wall stenciled  so mother and I went to work.  We worked on it from 2pm until 7pm, it turn out really nice.  I still need to finish her baby quilt and bumper pads for the baby bed.  It is going to be a darling baby room.

Stacy's Baby Shower

Mother & I finally arrive home safely!! I was beat from our long day of travel.  I had to gear up for the baby shower tonight Sept 30th.  I had been gone for three weeks.  Craig had left the house clean for me which really helped and the Towner's were bringing all the food which greatly helped.  I was in charge of decorating, drinks and plates.  I rushed to get my part ready.  We did have a very nice turn out.  It was lots of fun visiting with family and friends.  Stacy received lots of Lovely gifts.

Our Trip Home

Getting Fire Ants off of me leg, they hurt and leave a wicked bit from just a tiny ant.  We were standing in an ant bed when we took pictures.

Debbie and my Sister Michele
The day arrived for us to fly home, our flight did not leave until 4 pm Monday afternoon Sept 29th.   I had to get home in order to host a baby shower for Stacy the following day.  We had lunch with Tommy & Seth and they dropped  us off and helped us get our luggage in for checking, we made it barely in time to get on the plane.  We were told it was delayed due to bad weather in our connecting flight in Denver.  Hours later we are still sitting on the airplane and were told it would be another 45 minutes.   We finally got the ok to leave and took off on the runway to be told we could not take off, the Denver airport was closed.  So there we sat for hours on the plane again.  6 hours of sitting on that plane we finally arrived in Denver at 9:30 pm in a scramble to catch the last flight out to Salt Lake City.  I had to tell them my mother was ill and was not doing well. We got the last two seat on the 10:30 pm flight.  We finally arrived in Salt lake.  I wanted to kiss the ground !!  It was so crazy at the Denver airport people scrambling for connecting flights they some how misplaced mother's walker so we did not arrive with her walker.  I didn't even know if her luggage was going to make it.  We did find her luggage and the follow day the airport called to say they found her walker and would be delivering it for us.  What a sigh of relief!! That was a 12 hour journey for us getting home. I did not crawl into bed until after 2 am.
Saying our good byes. Michele was a great help in getting mother packed and nice to spend time with my sister..  When taking pictures we stood in a pile of fire ants and started biting us they hurt!!  I was doing the dancing jig to get them off of me.

Getting Mother ready to come to Utah

Michele came back Friday morning to help mother figure out what to pack for Utah.  That was a chore,  she has lots of clothes and she can only bring so much on the plane.  It took us the weekend to finally pull everything together.  I had to finish going thru mother bills and paper wool to bring back with me what w would need,  I know this is all really hard on jerkin loving her home that she has been in for two years now.  It is all just too much for her now and she should not be living alone.   She has done well until she got sick and now she is broke so she can't afford to stay.  I'm trying really hard to be kind and patient with her.  It has rake bus the entire week to pull everything together in order for her to come live in Utah.  I'm so ready to come home I will have been gone three weeks by the time I arrive home,  my dear husband is really missing me and I miss him too!!

Trip To My Sisters

Cute picture of the old house and stable in their backyard.

Wednesday we were finally were able to make the 2 hr drive to visit my sister in Timpson,Texas. Michele & John bought a very old home that was built in 1906, that they are slowly restoring,  it has so much personality and is just right up Michele's ally in all the talents she has.  She is really enjoying their many projects.  It was so fun to see her home, so now I can visualize where she lives.  We had a really nice trip for the day.
This picture is her darling chicken roast.  It is so cute!!
Michele is standing by and old sign they found in the yard when they cleaned it up.

One More Week In Texas

I survived my Texas garage sale.  We were able to get the barn cleaned out for mother.  Felt bad selling her things but needed to raise some money for her so we could have gas money to drive home.  Mother was not feeling well so I extended my trip for one more week so I could take her to all her doctors and I would know how to take care of her while in Utah.  She was acting afraid to drive and I did not know if she was healthy enough to survive the 24 hours of drive time.  I told her we were going to fly home.  I booked tickets coming home on the 28th of Sept.  This gave me the week to take her to her doctors and make finial arrangement in bringing her to Utah.  It was a very busy week for us.  I meet three of her doctors. They said it was just stress that is making her feel so bad.  Mother takes a lot of pills it is going to be a challenge in learning how to care for her. I was able to get the power of attorney done so I can have legal rights to help her and I became an owner on her checking account.  I also set her up online for online banking so now I can see what is happening in her checking account.  Sigh of relief to get that all done!!  So glad to be home.  I miss my hubby!!

Time At Mothers Home

We arrived at Mothers home late Friday night.  She was very glad to be back to her own home staying at Tom's home for a week was enough to tell her that she did not want to live at Tom's home.  She knew she was broke and that she is going to have to sell her home.  She could not sustain the lifestyle she has been living.  I felt bad for her and have just tried to comfort her.  She is a broken women!!  She wanted me to sleep with her in her bed every night. With only $300 in her checking we needed to raise some money. Decided to have a garage sale and sale what we could in her barn.  It needed to be cleaned out,  Michele my sister came on Monday to help me sort and get ready for a sale.  We worked for three days getting ready. Thursday was the big day!1  We had a flea market man arrive bright and early in the yard at 7am waiting.   He ended up buying most of mothers yard stuff, which she had a lot.  It was a lot of work and we had so many people show up.  We made $2,500.00.  Our sale lasted for three days.  I made the most on the first day.  I was beat when it was all over!!  I did have fun visiting with the people there.  Mother has really nice neighbors.  Billy and Shirley are the sweetest older couple .  Billy has helped to look after mother this past year.  He has mowed her lawn and helped her with whatever he can. The day after the sale I was cleaning up and mother took a funny picture of me in my night gown pushing a wheel barrel of left over yard stuff.
Picture of Dear Neighbors- Shirley and Billy, really enjoyed spending time with them!!

My Trip To Texas

I left Sept 10th for Texas.  Mother has had an emotional.and physical break down!!  I felt my heart soften and felt that she needed me to help her.  She is broke and heart broken.  She had only $300 left in her checking account when I arrived.  She has been on an emotional roller coaster.  She was an emotional wreck when I arrived, she was so glad to see me!!  She was not feeling well and had been at Toms home a week.  She had spent most of her time alone there and was not liking it.   Everyday was an emotional roller coaster for her.  She officially has given all her retirement away to an international dating scam.  We had all tried to warn her and she would not listen!!  She is having a hard time believing they could lie to her like they did.  I was able to be there to celebrate my nephews Seth Wallace's 18th birthday.  He is graduating from high school this year.  Chance arrived Friday evening  and I was able to visit with him for a short time, he is doing good for being in a wheelchair.  He has gone back to college.  He has his physical therapy there daily and is taking classes online.   He is a brave young man.  We are all praying he will walk again some day!!  He has a strong will to do so and is working hard to do his therapy.
