Passing of Craig's Mother

Honoring the passing of Craig's Mother LaVon- 86 years old. March 29th at 8:45pm- She loved life and was the life of any party!  She had her bags packed and ready for any adventure with the family -  we gathered as a family Monday night for her last firework show- she was holding on all day to see her fireworks -she passed quietly as her body shut down from Kidney failure at Craig’s Sister’s  home, Chris - I was blessed to be there holding her hand when she gently half opened her eyes with tears- as she took her last breath.  She will be greatly missed!!-  Debbie Symes

never knew a person that lived life more than my Gram. Her joy spread to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She taught me to live life without regrets and to love each minute of this life. She passed on her love of Mickey and the ocean and traveling and just embracing every moment given. She lived in the moment and embraced every person she met. I am forever thankful to be named after such an amazing woman. I will always love you Gram, and hold a special place where this hole now is in my heart. LaVon Symes. Sweet Tribute from my Niece Jennifer LaVon-

Terry Spinks - Mom was the life of every party.  I've never known anyone that was always smiling, laughing and enjoyed every minute of her life like she did.  There was never a dull moment when mom was around.  Thanks for sharing Jennifer.  We'll miss her so much but we will all have such great memories of her.

My great grandma gained her angel wings last night. Anyone who knew her knew she lit up every room she walked into. She was always in the best mood and the life of the party. You will be missed so much grandma. I love you tons. Rest in paradise❤️🥺❤️. Tasha Spinks -

The world lost one of its brightest lights yesterday and is a lot better, friendlier, glitterier, happier, livelier, feistier, and loving as a result of her being in it.   Words cant express what she means to me and what she has taught me.   Fly high and free grandma, but you'd better still come visit my parties and my fireworks and what else life has for us here.   Everyone adored you and will continue to adore you. Our Niece Kelly Symes.

Craig’s Mother Is Failing

It felt good to come to our Draper home last night after the birthday dinner.  I was beat and fell asleep on the couch watching the news.  On our way driving down to Kaysville -Chris - Craig’s oldest sister called to say they were at the hospital again.  They tested Lavon’s kidneys and say she is in kidney failure.  She is dying and only has a few more weeks to live.  She could try kidney dialysis- but would only prolong her life for how long we don’t know? And what is the quality of her life going to be?  Mom Lavon decided she wanted to go home and have hospice care come in for her final days of living and just let nature take its course as her body shuts down. I know it is upsetting for all the siblings and it’s so hard to let go.  Craig has been emotional over it. He left this morning to drive to St. George to spend a few days with her. It will be nice for him to have some time with his mom. I stayed behind and felt he needed this time of closure with his mother in her final days. I am so tired today -I don’t feel like doing a lot but resting. I know Craig’s not feeling the best either he’s been fighting this illness for over a couple of weeks now. He has so much congestion like a really bad cold. He started an antibiotic on Thursday-And is starting to feel better, he still doesn’t sound good sleeping at night, he has a bad cough and still lots of congestion. Pray he has a safe trip and have some tender moments with his mother. There will be things that he needs to work on in helping her finalize her estate. I just can’t handle the emotions right now- With the passing of my own mother- I’m fighting the tears today saying good-bye is so hard.  It’s only been 4 months since we buried her.  I have been on an Emotional roller coaster since her passing. I’m just trying to stabilize my emotions right now and then adding Craig’s mom so soon afterwards -  We both will have lost our mothers in a short time apart.

Sharlena’s Birthday

We drove down after church today to have a lovely birthday dinner with the Noriega family.  Barbara Noriega - Dave’s mother fixed us a yummy birthday dinner.  It was fun to visit with the family.  Barbara had a pickleball court built in her backyard.  The family is loving having it there so close to play Pickleball with family and friends..  We enjoyed watching  Craig, Dave, Austin and Jacob play several games-  Jacob is only 12 years old and he is playing really good.  It’s hard to believe our oldest daughter is 44 years old.  This has been a very warm day about 78 degrees which is very unusual temps for this time of year.  It was that warm the weekend before she was born.  It usually is not this warm in March.  I can’t remember it being this warm since the year she was born   We had a nice time sitting outside and enjoying the warm spring air.  I loved hearing all the different birds chirping. Happy Birthday to our Sharlena 🎈

Craig with his Little Love bucket is what her called her as a little girl.  I’m so proud of Sharlana and the wonderful wife and mother she has become to her family.  She has raised awesome children and all active in the church.  They have been blessed with such special children.  So enjoyed visiting with Barbara in her home.  We always seem to have a lot to talk about.  Wish Shar would engage more in conversation.  I try really hard to get her talking.  She has always been so closed off to me as a mother over the years.  Everything is just on the surface conversation.  I feel awkward with her.  She seemed very aloof yesterday-  interacting with Aubrey but not much with me as her mother. I have been so glad they have lived close to Dave’s mother all these years- their entire marriage just a block away - Which I have been so envious-  I feel like I have missed out on all the tender moments with the 4 Grankids I would have liked.  I have tired to be there when I was needed .  Barbara took the role with her being close.  I just had to let go and know she was in good hands.  I have tried to be a good mother-  I just felt I have failed her in the relationship I have wanted to have with our oldest daughter-  it is a two way street and she has to let me in her life too.   She is really good at inviting us to all the things the kids have been involved in and we have been there to support them.  I love her with all my heart as my oldest daughter- just wish we could have a closer relationship- just not sure if it is going to happen -I feel her slipping away from me as the years go by.  Just want her to know I have always loved her and she has brought great joy to our lives.

Relief Society Lesson

Personal Peace in Challenging Times
 By Elder Quentin L. Cook
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
It has never been more important to seek personal peace.  I love the message from this talk.  We had such a great lesson in reviewing and the sisters all make such insightful comments.  I'm always so glad to be in attendance and add spiritual oil to my lamp in preparing for the second coming our of Savior.

Love Studing The Old Testament

“…I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” - Genesis 45:4-7 ~ Have a wonderful Sunday! 💜https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1PMd4RWKWsyqJFirslfetvQZQb8w5NwyE
Learning to forgive one another is a blessing in our lives-  it is difficult at times and does take time to process -  the letting go process is so powerful and I have felt the healing Balm of my Savior’s atonement.  Our Sabbath day - I was asked to lead the congregational hymns today while Mary Pope was out of town.  It’s a little nervy for me when I don’t lead much any more.  I can’t sing either my voice has changed greatly getting older.  It is our fast and testimony meeting today as it is Conference next weekend - so we have had two fast and testimony meetings this month.  I’m really excited for conference coming up.  Looking forward to be feed from our Prophet and Apostles. Craig is presiding in the Bishopric as our bishop is out of town this weekend.  I did forget it was fast Sunday-  I fixed Craig and I a yummy breakfast.  We have been on our diet for a month now.  The weight is slowly coming off.  I was so excited this morning I weighed 165.4 which I haven’t seen for over two years.  Yeah keep going I have lost 7 lbs since I started.  I’m starting to. It feel so bloated.  I still have a ways to go getting down 10 more lbs will feel so good.

So Awesome !!

Craig Is Sick

We drove back to the lake Wednesday morning after gathering Tuesday evening for the opening of her mission call -  Craig hasn’t felt well the past three weeks - last week he called the online dr. and got a prescription for prednisone.  he took it for three days and was feeling a little better.  Wednesday morning he was having a set back- just not feeling well again -  We drive back to the. Lake to host our game night with our friends tonight.  Craig had a rough night last night - he got up early and drove to Logan to the Instacare -  the doctor on call there prescribed an antibiotic for him to take- with him struggling the past few weeks said he was having secondary symptoms.  He has a cough now and inflammation moved to his chest.  I had to cancel our game night with him not feeling well.  While he was gone Mary Pope came over and I helped her work on her family history for about 4 hrs - don’t know if we accomplished a lot but showed her how to build her tree on ancestry.com.  After she left I spent several hours reviewing her family files and seeing what I could do to help her with.  Her great parents came from Germany- so she has got to spend time in the parish records of conwuig, Germany- I’m not much help- but found what records come up on ancestry that will help her.  It has been so cold today.  It is hard coming back to the lake with the lake frozen and all the snow still here.  I would have liked to have stayed in Draper.  Helping Mary today help to pass some time- and feel like I’m helping someone.  Craig and I spent the evening watching the news and a couple of movies on Netflix-  I’m sleeping up stairs -  I’m just feeling better this past month and really don’t want to get sick again.  Sure pray I can stay healthy.  I’m trying hard to take my vitamins and eat better.  Since my blessing a month ago I have felt so much better.  Craig and I started our diet three weeks ago-  the weight is very slowly coming off-  I have finally dropped down to 166.2 -  I have been able to drop and Finally I have lost about  4 pounds.  I haven’t weighed this amount since 2019 -  I’ve got to hang it here and stay the course.

I have a baby again.”  He is a mini husky-  https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1T7B736uy0_tdg_GyAVByPqTxVnZNKSqGhttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1QwQVRG436MjDayqZqXR1WJ-MN3bZDahU

Temple List 2022

March 19th, 2022- Craig and I are attending the Temple in the morning.  We plan to attend the Star Valley Temple -  it is about an hour and a half drive from our place at Bear lake- we took the youth in our Ward to the same temple in January.  February flew by for us and we didn’t make it to the Temple -  two trips baby sitting for Stacy in California threw me off my Temple attendance.  March is quickly going by too-  so glad we were able to schedule a time to attend.  I have spent several hours  tonight reviewing my temple cards and seeing what needs to be done.  It’s a little more time consuming for me to keep up with my working temple cards-  the temple doesn’t give us back our cards we have to reprint for each ordinance- so I’m making a temple list each time we attend and record each ancestor - So I can follow up on my family search family file -what needs to be completed-
Ruby Lee Bailes - she is my mother’s oldest sister
James Shirkey - old timer to the county in late 1790’s born about 1784-

St Patrick’s Day

Today has been a busy day.  I was beat from hosting and decorating the Relief Society Party at the church last night.  Craig and I had to go to church this morning to gather up all my things I hauled down to decorate with.  Craig spent the day cleaning things up- He cleaned out the garage today- I had planned a St Patrick’s Party with 3 couple tonight.  I love St Patrick’s day -it is always a fun day.  I was sick last year.  I had fun getting out my St Patrick’s decorations and setting the table fun for our dinner. We invited three Sr couples that live up in the Mountains in Bridgerland-  the Christensen’s, Hauber and Dahl’s -  we all had a great time visiting eating a yummy dinner and played the card game swoop-  it was a fun evening.  I’m beat again-  we had another very full day-  I forgot to take pictures-  I decorated the kitchen counter  cute for St Patrick’s Day -  my legs ached last night trying to sleep -from being on my feet  yesterday and another busy day.  Fun to be busy doing things I like to do-  I told Craig I’m happy when I creating something-  we had roast beef and gravy left over from our carter dinner last night so I used it to make my Irish stew.   It turned out yummy - Julie bought a  yummy Cherry pie, Lori brought a yummy salad, Becky brought a yummy salad too-  we all enjoyed dinner-  it was a fun evening.

Relief Society Birthday Party

I made 11 of these ballo0n Center pieces for our wars RS birthday party this Wednesday night.  They all turned out darling -  I already had the glass vases from Natasha s wedding reception-  the tall glass vases looked so pretty.  Craig came home Tuesday night with balloons all over our bed.  My back was hurting so I laid  in bed while I made the balloon display for each table. It took me about 2 hours to get them all made. Sister Turnbow a sweet sister  in the ward made these two picture frame for our table display.  Everything set up so lovely  I forgot to take pictures again.  I did receive lots of compliments for how pretty it all turned out.  Sister Menlove our Stake Relief Society President called me this morning to thank me for all my effort and for the personal invitations to the sisters-  there were several that came from reaching out inviting them to attend.  We only had about 35 sister attend.  I wished we would have had more-  we planned about 60 so about half the sisters in the ward came-  they missed a lovely evening-  I was very pleased with the out come. It was a lot of work for me the past two weeks. Craig and I had to leave at 8pm to attend a stake interview appointment-  they called Sunday evening to meet with the Stake president-  we were stressing since Sunday what one earth could it be ?  I had to leave the sisters after the party and let them finish up on the clean up.
Well sigh of a relief the party was a great success-  And out Stake interview went well-  they asked us to help serve at the family history library in Montpellier- that is something we can do-  right up my ally- we enjoyed our time visiting with President Robert’s -  glad it’s not a stake calling that takes us out of the ward.  Adding another calling to my list-  I teach gospel doctrine once a month,  minister to 4 sisters -  serve as the Relief Society Chairman for the RS activities- and on the Family History ward committee. So I keep busy in the Ward-  Craig says I have more callings in the Ward than anyone. It keeps me busy and I love serving in the Ward-

Ward Conference

Today it is our ward conference.
Bishop is our first speaker - what topic is best for us as a ward.  - sustaining the members in the ward for their service and calling-  we are changing The way we do things-the ward program is now online - each week has a quote-  where can we turn for peace in this turbulent world - we are dealing with many challenges-  we need our brother and sisters - what is our place? We have a great destiny- we play a great role as the seed of Abraham - our responsible to help one another.  Minsitering to one another-  those we are assigned to look after. Are we willing to defend the truth? We are held accountable for the things we do.   Lifting those around us -are we doing everything we can to have the spirit with us - being a witness of Jesus Christ daily as our Baptism covenants-  the spirits works like the sun as it rises -it becomes brighter little by little - light and inspirations that comes to us so important-  love those around us- God love us 💕- the higher we are on the spirtural latter we see better - to influence others for good-

President  Robert-  always love his messages -  find purpose in life - trying to find themselves - last talk by president Nelson in Confernce oct 2o21 - make time every day for the Lord- takes time and will help us with the distraction of the world -  tell the story of seeing a cougar -  mother with four Cubs - he was trained to see -  the more we work to connect with God - we will be come easier as we work at it-  use our agency to draw closer to closer to God

We had a very nice Relief society lesson - sister Woods taught today- she is serving as our new 2nd counselor. They just organized the relief society presidency last month.  She did such a great job teaching.  We discussed the conference talk by -  Gods Love the Most Joyous to the Sou By Susan H. Porter
First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency- love this quote from her message - “ God’s love is not found in the circumstances of our lives but in His presence in our lives.” When you know and understand how completely you are loved as a child of God, it changes everything.  Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught: “The first great commandment of all eternity is to love God with all of our heart, might, mind, and strength—that’s the first great commandment. But the first great truth of all eternity is that God loves us with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength.”  I was very touched by thinking how much God does love me and that I want to focus more this week in giving that love back to all those I come in contact with this week.

More Snow / Study Time

Craig and I were able to get out yesterday morning to finish up on delivering the Relief Society birthday invitations - over the River and thru woods we go - driving the snowy dirt mountain roads covered in snow.  We got off the road in a snow bank on our first stop.  Spend the next few hours digging out.  Craig finally had to walk back to the cabin and get his truck to pull our car out -  it did pull out safely - feeling discouraged from our futal efforts - we had to regroup -  we came back to the cabin and had our diet lunch- trying to stay on course- we then tried it again.  I was able to finish up what I had to hand out.  I met Sister Menlove who lives up in the mountainous area of our ward Briderland at the food pantry -  We chatted for a bit and she said she would finish up her area so we didn’t have to venture out anymore - which was so nice of her.  I really appreciated her help.  We have another snow storm coming in by evening.    It snowed all night!  Waking up to another foot of snow.  We now have more snowat our lake home than we have seen in the past 4 winters.   Feels like a day not to venture out.  Studying the come follow me lesson material this morning- What can you do now to prepare yourself to remain faithful when you face trials in the future?  Penetrating ?  I have learned to remain faithful and stay the course.   Which is a reminder to look to the future of joy- eternal Life- I just read the conference talk attached to the lesson material which gives great insights-by  D. Todd Christofferson, “The Joy of the Saints,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2019, 15–18.
The Prophet Joseph Smith explained: “When His commandments teach us, it is in view of eternity; for we are looked upon by God as though we were in eternity; God dwells in eternity, and does not view things as we do.”
“Problems will come into all of our lives; it’s part of just being here upon this earth. And some people think that religion or having faith in God will protect you from bad things. I don’t think that’s the point. I think the point is that if our faith is strong, that when bad things happen, which they will, we’ll be able to deal with them. … My faith never wavered, but that didn’t mean that I didn’t have depressions. I think for the first time in my life, I was pushed to the limit, and literally there was nowhere to turn, and so I turned to the Lord, and to this day, I feel a spontaneity of joy.”
Similarly, the joy “set before us” is the joy of assisting the Savior in His work of redemption. As the seed and children of Abraham, we participate in blessing all the families of the earth “with the blessings of the Gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal.”
The fruits of our service to one another in the Church are part of the joy “set before us.” Even in times of discouragement or stress, we can minister patiently if we are focused on the joy of pleasing God and bringing light, relief, and happiness to His children, our brothers and sisters….
Russell M. Nelson, I testify that joy is a gift for faithful Saints “who have endured the crosses of the world” and who are “intentionally trying to live a righteous life, as taught by Jesus Christ.” May your joy be full!
These are quotes that were highlights from reading the conference talk-
Learning about Jospeh who was sold into Egypt as a slave by his own brothers-   Genesis 37:1–28; 39; 41:9–45
“The Lord was with Joseph” in his adversity- in reading the scripture chapters the Lord was with Jospeh in his trails and as he was obedient he was still blessed and prospered.  It is comforting to know despite our challenges there are blessings awaiting us - it is Trusting in the Lords Time -

Busy Preparing Relief Society Birthday Dinner

I was sustained last Sunday as the chairman for the Relief Society activities- in our ward.  I have only two weeks to pull it all together.  Sunday I spent time reading in the book Daughters of my Kingdom - looking for a theme for the up coming  birthday dinner on March 16th celebrating the organization of Releif Society.  This is my big  event to plan for the sister in our Ward.  As I read the book and reviewed the history of the Relief Society organization this quote jump out at me - inspiring me -this is our theme for the event - https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=191mfqJA16txcyQt151ufmcA_JUWcoMim
The Relief Society was organized March 17th 1842 this is an eventful anniversary now 18O years later- The worlds largest  female organization in the world.  It has been organized by God and has grown to be world wide as we unite in sisterhood giving service and caring for the needs of each of us in our homes and communities around the world 🌎.
I quickly had a meeting with my committee last Wednesday before Craig and I had to leave town-  I have 4 sisters to work with.  Gave out our assignments to work on.  I worked in creating an invitation and ordered online.  Our meeting went well. And out the door Craig and I went -anxious to see his mother.  Saturday when we arrived back in town I found the invitation at the door.  I was excited they had arrived a few days early.  I was able to go thru the ward list and  address all the sisters in the ward. The invitations turned out nice.  I started handing them out on Sunday.  I divided them in groups of locality in our ward boundary for my committee sisters to hand out too.  I took several hours after church  Sunday to start handing out invitations-  it was snowy getting In-N-Out to their homes.  Fun to visit with the sisters.  I ordered 100 invitation.  I still have about 30 more in my area to personally deliver-  I was going to work on them yesterday.  The sun was out -a beautiful day after the snow storm-  by the time I did 4 loads of laundry, my workout on our new Peleton bike- cleaned up the dishes and went to the store for food for our new diet-  by 2:30 my back was killing me- I was beat and had to take a rest. I took a nap and the day was done for me.  It was too late to get out and delivered invitations. Today it is snowing again and going to get worse as the days goes by- wished I had pushed myself to keep going.  The weather was beautiful - the sun shining.  Today it is cloudy and snow flurry’s.  I’ve got to get the invitations delivered today. To give them all a weeks notice to plan for the event.  I don’t like driving in the snow!  I wanted to go to Draper for the week and spend some time shopping for decorating ideas for the birthday party- I need to put my Christmas decorations away at our Draper home.  I have not had the time yet to tackle -with us going back and forth.  We haven’t been there long enough to put things away.  I worked hard last Tuesday cleaning at the lake and getting thing packed away from the Christmas décor - I just left out the winter snowman decor I have at the lake.  It is still winter wonderland here at the lake.  The lake is frozen solid!  With this cold front coming in again it is not going to start melting this week.  More snow on its ways

Winter is back / Jacob’s Ladder

It started snowing Saturday on our way back to the lake from our St George trip -  it snowed all night Saturday- we woke up to about a foot of snow.  There weren’t many members at Church Sunday.  A lot having to moved the snow to get out.
It is reported the biggest snow storm this year and more to come today and tomorrow.  It is cold too! The Salt lake Valley received lots of snow too.  It was nice on Friday and Saturday morning when we left.  I wanted to stay longer but had to get back up to the lake for church.   I was teaching gospel doctrine this weekend.  I teach on the first Sunday of each month.   I have enjoyed preparing and studying for the lesson.  We are promised the blessings of Abraham in the temple. Jacob considered the site so sacred that he named the place Bethel, which means literally “the House of the Lord… this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” Gen. 28:17 ~

I have loved learning more about the Story of Jacob’s Ladder -his vision he had in the wilderness traveling to Haren to escape the anger of his twin brother Esau.  On the way he had this vision and experience where the Lord visited him- He was in a holy place - as the temples of God are for us in our time.  I opened the lessen with listening to the hymn Nearer God to Thee- the hymn was written from this experience Jacob had as we read in Gensis 28:  I have always loved the hymn and now it has even more meaning to me.  I love learning about this story in Vacation Bible school as a young girl.   One of my favorites from the Old Testament. In preparing for this lesson I have gained even a greater understanding of the message taught in the scriptures.  We can return to Heaven as we climb the ladder in keeping our covenants with the lord.  Making and keeping scared covenants leads me up the ladder.  Making sacred temple covenants leads to eternal life within the Celestrial kingdom.  In order to obtain -it is required to marry in the covenant.  Jacob was on his journey to find a wife to marry in the covenant when he had this dream and profound experience teaching him the importance of obedience needed -in order to climb the ladder to our Heavenly Home.  My temple covenants truly are the link helping me climb the ladder -It takes commitment and effort living a Christ like life.  It just doesn’t happen- it takes action on my part.   We had a great lesson and so blessed to be teaching.  I’m loving learning more about the Old Testament.  The Come Follow me lessons are truly a blessing that is bringing me closer to Christ and is helping me to clime the ladder to Heaven.
