Sister Missionaries

We have sister missionaries in our area at Bear lake which is special, we get to have more interaction with them locally, the sister just sent me the sweetest not today !!
Hey sister Symes, this made us think of you. "how much value is there in fixing the world if the people around us are falling apart and we don't notice? Heavenly Father may have placed those who need us closest to us, knowing that we are best suited to meet their needs" you are doing GREAT with your youngwomen!   I needed this note of encouragement more than ever, little did I know the drama that would be taken places in a short time.

Heading Back To The Lake

We got up and out this morning to babysit for Shannon & Ryan for the weekend.  They called just as we got out of Logan canyon saying they are not going,  Ashtyn is sick.  They were able to cancel their reservation for another time.  This freed up our day and weekend.   We ate Lunch at Sizzler and headed over to Cole's Track meet at 3pm.  It’s 5pm and we are heading back home.  We can now stay home to watch conference this weekend.  It is Easter Sunday this weekend we are going to head back to Tasha house on Sunday for a family dinner and a Easter egg hunt. I had loaded food for the weekend at Chaudhry’s now I have got to unload and reload again on Sunday.  Glad we are able to just stay home this weekend.

Cole’s Track Meet

We drove down today to see Cole compete today.  He took 3rd place in the 300 meter hurdles.  He also improved his time on the 100 meter hurdles.   Fun to watch him.  It has been a beautiful spring day sitting outside in the sun.

Playing Pickle Ball/ Buck Called As Bishop

We have been having fun playing pickle ball in the mornings once a week.  This week we played outside at the KOA pickle ball courts, it was fun !! the snow falling lightly, we still played outside.

March 25, 2018-This has been a blessed Sunday for our family our son-in-law Buck was called to serve as a bishop in the Independence 4th ward of Bluffdale Utah today.  I felt very moved by the spirit as I sat in sacrament and watched the mantel of a Bishop passed onto Buck.  I had a strong impression in my heart that this is the right thing for their family at this season in their lives even though we would have never predicted this situation to happen, with them temporary living in their condo in Bluffdale.  They have just been trying to figure out what they’re doing with their lives since they came back from St. George.  This has been a world wind of events for their family this past year. They quickly sold their home in spring- March 2017 and bought a lot in Heber, they planned on building a home there.  They had their house plans all drawn up and ready to submit to the city when building cost were skyrocketing and soon to come to find out they cannot even afford to build their dream home that they had planned in Heber.   It was very upsetting months for Trisha and back trying to figure out what to do, they started looking at the housing market again and ended up buying a home in St. George Utah which was a surprise for us all as well, they bought a beautiful home there with a cassita, bedroom off the kitchen for guest- which we thought would be fun for us to go visit in the winter months over the years.  We ended up only staying twice there.  They seem to be liking it very well and adjusting fairly quickly.  Buck was just having a very hard time emotionally feeling isolated from his family and friends that he had grown up with in the Salt Lake Valley, he was not happy while they lived there a short period of time only for three months.  They put their house up for sale the week of Halloween and sold out within a couple of weeks.  They were coming back to the Salt Lake Valley not knowing where they would be moving to.   They wanted to wait until their lot Heber had officially closed on, to have their money from that and the closing of their home in St. George before they bought anything here in the upper valley.  They have began looking at lots again wanting to build, they were limited to what they can find because the kids want to stay in the Bluffdale school area.   They had on two different lots and finally decided on an acre lot in a new subdivision going in Bluffdale.  It is going to be a least a year out before they will be moving in, most likely about this time next year.  In the middle of all of this going on they took a trip to Hawaii for their anniversary and took the kids to Orlando Florida for a break before they started back in their new schools.   About three weeks ago Buck was told to his name had been recommended for the new stake that was going to be formed in that area which came as a huge surprise to Trisha and us!  We knew that they had not planned on staying in this area, Buck was even interviewed by two different 70's of the church.   They ended up calling their bishop that is only 26 years old to serve in the newly formed stake presidency which left an opening for the bishopric where they are now renting.  Buck’s name was listed on the recommendation as a new Bishop, he let the stake president know that they had only planned on being there about a year to year and a half.   The process has been very interesting, The stake president said that he prayed for inspiration, who should be the new bishop? They even took Buck's name off the list several times but they still kept feeling the strong prompting that Buck should be the new bishop. He submitted his name to the quorum of the 12 apostles and there his name was prayed about, The 12 apostles felt confirmation Buck was to serve as the bishop. How can you turn down a calling when you know that the 12 apostles have been praying for your name, it is reassuring this calling has been ordained of God through the knowledge of 12 apostles. The call was extended to Buck this last week and sustained today as the new bishop in the ward, what a blessing in our lives and I know that this will be a great blessing for their family to even though it was not foreseen for their family plan a this season. I was very  touched as Trisha was called to share her testimony.  The tears flowed.  Such a blessing for their lives as a family.  I know Buck and Trisha have much to give and will serve well in this calling together as a couple.  It will bring great growth to their family while they are in the process of building their new home.  This will be a time they can give back to the Lord as a family and not be living their lives in limbo.

St Patrick’s Day

Craig and I were getting a little antsy here at the cabin with the weather turning off cold there wasn’t much to do so we decided to go to Salt Lake for the weekend, we left Friday morning and came back home Saturday evening we were there for St. Patrick’s Day morning with the Thomas family.  A fun tradition that my girls have continued on with their children.  I started when they were young celebrating St. Patrick’s Day having a leprechaun leave little feet throughout the house, green treats, green milk and green pancakes and finding their pot of gold!! Fun to visit with the Thomas family, we then went out to see Shannon & the boys and our baby Ashtyn, fun to visit with them for a little bit before it was time to be heading back.   We are so very blessed!!

New Beginnings

Jerika & Saige two of our darling Beehives
Tonight is the big night for our New Beginnings Young Women’s program. We highlighted the four new beehives coming in this year and presented a presentation about the young women’s program. It all turned out so lovely, I was so pleased with the outcome, each of the girls that were asked to speak did a great job on their talks.  I was touched by the Spirit by the words expressed.  Our beehive president Tessa did such a great job on her talk,  she is a great speaker,  she prepared well and it showed.  Aly one of our Mia Maid's did very good speaking and Jesalyn one of our Laurel's.   I’m so very proud of all that spoke tonight.  The decoration were fun and bright.  We had cup cakes with the value colors.  We talked a lot about the personal progress program to encourage the girls, and their parents.  Hoping to motivate them all to strive to accomplish their 6 experiences in each value and then their 10 hour project for each value in the personal progress program.
Fun decoration, I made the flower arrangement for the special event
Elise the best young women's secretary

I worked hard getting ready for this special event I started a couple weeks ago making the cute invitations

I made darling banners that we put around the room with the values Faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity and virtue. Everything looked bright and cheery. Today was a busy day finishing typing up the program and then I had to drive to Logan to pick up the cupcakes and grocery shop at Sam’s Club, I got home just in time to hurry and get dressed and go back to the church to finish decorating in time for the meeting, it has been a very full day I’m now lying on an ice pack fighting a bad migraine, it feels good to rest from my busy day very blessed day.   I’m so excited that Jordan one of my laurels game tonight that has only been to one other activity this entire year so far, she says she really wants to go to trek this year, would be so amazing if she does go, keep encouraging her and her family, they have not been very active in coming to church on Sunday, her youngest sister Jerika does come to activities on Tuesday night and they have a little sister coming in September, pray that I can help influence in a positive way sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ is so exciting, pray for Jordan, so happy her mother attended tonight too.

Lincoln’s Baptism Day

Thomas Family
Cousin's on Lincoln's Special Baptism Day March 4th, 2018
Austin, Saydee, Cole, Karlee, Jacob, Boston, Lincoln, Winston

"Beaming with pride for my big 8 year old who got baptized today! We had the best day celebrating with our family! πŸ’› Linc has been so excited for this day to come for months now!!! Love you more my Linky 😘," cute note posted by his mother, Natasha.  We are very proud of our Lincoln making this choice to be baptized.  He looks so handsome in his new suit, just like a little man. It has been a real honor to witness this day, Lincoln taking this step to obey our Heavenly Father's commandment to be baptized. Gathering as family is such a joy.  Grandmother Mindy Thomas said the opening prayer, her prayer was very touching as she cried tears of joy, which made my eyes water up too listening to her pray.  She invited the Spirit of the Holy Ghost into this sacred meeting.  The tears did not stop as Austin our 12 year old grandson gave a talk he had prepared himself.  He did such an amazing job!!  He stood there with confidence opening his scriptures reading from them and sharing a gospel message about how important it is to be baptized, expressing how it is part of our Heavenly Father's plan.  He spoke with such maturity for a 12 year old.  My heart beamed listening to his message and expressing his testimony to Lincoln on his very special day.  Our Austin is a spiritual giant, he is small in stature yet so tall in his example to us all by the mighty spirit inside his heart.  What a joy to witness his strength in the gospel.  We all proceeded to the Baptism font to Witness Lincoln be baptized by his father Bridger.  Craig and Matt Thomas, both grandfather's were the priesthood witnesses.  We all returned to the primary room, as Saydee our oldest granddaughter now 15 years old gave a talk on the importance of the Holy Ghost in our lives.  She spoke with clarity and touched all our hearts with her message.  The tears filled my eyes again with joy for our beautiful Saydee as she expressed her testimony to her little cousin Lincoln, It was so touching to see Lincoln's eyes water up too and know that he is filling the Holy Spirit too as she spoke to him. After Saydee's talk the Brethren holding the priesthood all gathered to lay their hands upon Lincoln to bless him with the gift of the Holy Ghost. Bridger gave Lincoln such a beautiful blessing. What a joy to witness such strength, Great-grandpa Thomas, Grandpa Matt Thomas, Grandpa Craig Symes, Uncle Bob Nelson, 1st counselor in the bishopric, and Uncle Buck gather in the circle to bless Lincoln with the gift of the Holy Ghost which is such a very special gift of the spirit to guide and bless our lives as we learn to listen and heed the prompting of the spirit.  What joy in my life and the life of our family to witness this event in the life of our grandchildren this day.  I'm so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life and so very blessed to now see my family members embrace the gospel in their lives. May we all return with Honor to our Heavenly Home.

Roots Tech Family History Conference

Having a great time with Lynette Banks.  This is an amazing conference.  The keynote speaker today is Scott Hamilton Olympic gold skater. Craig and I drove down to Salt Lake on Wednesday morning early the last day of February, to meet with Craig Christensen, a dear friend for many years and is now serving as a seventy in the presidency.  Craig had to schedule his lunch appointment months in advance to meet with him.  We wanted to talk about our timing in serving a fulltime mission.  Craig and I both are serving in leadership calling in our Bear Lake Ward which we did not anticipate when moving to Bear Lake.  We feel like this is our mission now serving here.  Craig said what we are doing now is important, just turn our papers in a few years when we feel we are ready to go.  We plan to serve in our callings with all our hearts at this time.  Not labeled an official calling, but we are serving the Lord and doing missionary work in our ward callings.  We had a great time visiting with Craig and getting caught up on the events in our lives as friends.  We have known them for about 28 years, we both moved in the Mountain Oaks ward in 1990 and had fun times together as families.  After our visit we went shopping at Mr Mac's and bought Craig a new suit.  He felt he needed to buy one.  It has been many years since his last suit, and they are getting tight on him as we grow older sad to say.  I stopped by the Salt Palace to pick up my name tag for the Roots Tech family history conference, so excited to attend this year.  I have classes all day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  I'm attending with my neighbor Lynette Banks from our old neighborhood.  We have gone many time over the years together.  I didn't go last year, I was sick with a terrible kidney infection, this year I'm healthy!!  We had great time learning new things about family history.  I think the most I gained from the conference is to share with my family and write the stories of our lives and try to create the stories of our ancestor before us, leave a legacy behind that binds us together as an eternal family, building bridges that link us together.
