Thursday
I’ve been a little slow starting today I’ve taken time to update my blog entries this morning I worked out 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer and I overlook some of my music that I had bought at education week this summer- songs by Janis Kapp Parry, I listen to the CD's that I had bought and the sheet music from her, I would really like to learn some of the new songs. I wanted to try to sing a song this Sunday but I’m not going to be able to make that work- Burbidge family are arriving tonight to celebrate Sadie’s birthday. That will be my weekend.
Visiting Teaching
My visiting teaching day- Craig left early Wednesday morning to go to Salt Lake City he had a busy day. I slept in until about 9:30am, I hurried got dressed and went to visit three of my sisters in our ward, I have sister Doris Mellor who is in her 70's we were there for about an hour and a half visiting with her, we then went to Yvonne Spencer 76 years old she is such a sweet lady we were able to keep our visit a little shorter with her, last month we were there for two hours visiting with her, she loves to talk, from there we went to City Hall to visit with Kathy Hislop who is our Ward primary president, we had a great visit with her. Tally Johnson is my visiting teaching companion she is my age and moved here about the same time last year. I had not eaten anything so by 1:30pm I was starving, I went to Subway and got a yummy sub, came home and ate it. I wanted to work on my family history for the afternoon but I just can’t seem to stick to it, so I took a nap, I need the the rest, I have been really tired lately, evening I spent time reading in the Ensign reviewing conference talks that talked about building our faith so I could know how to help our young women in our faith values for this month, I couldn’t sleep between 1:30 to 3 AM in the morning I read more of the general conference talks, I’ve been so uplifted by their messages. It was greatly stress to read and study the book of Mormon this year and I have made that a goal to complete the Book of Mormon and to try to get more out of it. I really liked President Nelson‘s talk and President Eyring‘s talk about their experience in reading the Book of Mormon and honoring President Thomas S Monson‘s counsel to read the book this year, I’m going to try to do the same by their example, I just finished the Isaiah sand bar in second Nephi about 10 chapters last night. They are really hard to understand, so I was glad I got through them. I rejoice in the plainness of Nephi as he tries to explain the scripture passages that he wanted us to know about in Isaiah.
Young Women’s
I enjoyed our young women’s activity tonight at church, my leaders all did such a great job we separated into the beehive group we now have five beehives and they made prayer rocks to remind them to pray morning and night working on our value Faith #1. Then our Mia miad group we discussed the Faith value #2. It was a great discussion some of the highlights that I wrote down from our discussion- faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things therefore if you have faith you hope for things which are not seen which are true, Alma 32:21. We called a new advisers Sister Parks to assistant teaching are 14-15 year old class, she was sustained and set apart last Sunday. I had only met her once she just moved here in December, so I don’t know much about her but I was very impressed in our discussion- her insights and learning more about her. She is only 21 years of age but very mature. she served a mission and has married in the temple to her handsome husband and they are now living here at Bear Lake full-time, she will be a great asset to the young women in our ward she made some really good comments- doubt and faith do not exist at the same time. Exercising exactness in keeping the Commandments strengthens our faith and brings miracles in our lives. I really like this thought that she shared we talked about womanhood and faith what do mothers of the stripling warriors teach about faith in Alma 56:45-48, 57:21. We learned that they reacted with exactness and keeping commitments from the teachings of their mothers, these young men had great faith in knowing that God would protect them as they fought against the Lamanites. They had learned their faith in God through the teachings and the example of their mothers. We also read “The Family” a proclamation to the world, learned what mother’s roles are as they prepare to become a future mother. We talked about qualities that they need to develop such as patients, love respect and living as an example for others to follow- these are all great skills that they can develop in preparing to raise a family they are in charge of the spiritual nurturing of their own children. Talked about what we could do to become a more faithful woman, wife and mother. We discussed ways in order to accomplish, that would be to faithfully read our scriptures, attend our church meetings weekly, Attend seminary in school, Watch and learn from their own mothers, prepare skills for a future family, need to study hard and to gain an education and develop a life skills. I am a grandmother now and have raised five of my own daughters, is a joy, I now watch my daughters raise their children and know that I have taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ and they are now teaching their family and living the Gospel, it brings such joy to my heart. I know that this church is true and I love the gospel of Jesus Christ with all my heart I have strive with all diligence to raise a righteous family and to strive to be a righteous example myself, I know I still have many things to learn but I am striving to do what is right.
Family History Bug
I have not been able to work on my family history for a while now, I felt like I wanted to take some time to review what needs to be done and get a working plan going again, I spent all afternoon working on my cousin Terry and her family, I got out her family file and updated on ancestry.com and family search the information that I had, my aunt Shirley had mailed to me many years ago, these are my first cousins that I have not seen in many many years. Terry is my age, now lives in Texas close to my mother. In reviewing the family group sheet I learned that my cousin Terry has been married five times she had two sons Joey and Ryan by different fathers and each of those fathers have died. The first husband died from colon cancer and the second husband died from a brain tumor information that I had forgotten about and was nice to learn about my cousin and her struggles in life my aunt Shirley is about 86 years old now and hanging in there living in Florida, the same home that she has lived in since about 1970 for over 40 years. Terry is trying to get her to move to Texas so that she can help take care of her but not having any success. It was nice to spend the afternoon working on family history I have lots more to do just slowly going through the information that I have and trying to get things scan and uploaded on ancestry.com and family search working on one ancestor at a time.
Monday
I am so tired today from our very busy Sunday and my very busy schedule since I returned home. I have worked hard getting things cleaned up and put away, finally got all the Christmas put away it feels good to have the cabin cluttered free. I worked out on the elliptical trainer trying to get some exercise, I then called all of our daughters and communicated with them to see how things are going in their lives, our poor Stacy-the illness doesn’t end, since I got home Jude and little Enzo started running a fever and very sick on the weekend. Stacy is starting to feel better her energy level is just low in recovering from her own illness. Tasha is very busy with her little family and Bridger went to Vietnam for a five-day trip with his work that’s a long ways to go in that short period time. Trisha said that their family has been fighting illness too, Boston just started back to school on Monday, since they have moved back to Salt Lake from St. George the girl started back last week from their winter break, their enjoying being in familiar surroundings and reacquainting with their old friends. They are planning on coming to Bear Lake this weekend for our Sadie bug’s birthday she will be 15 years old on January 27th, Aubrey had her birthday on January 20 turning 14 years old and our little Yael Towner’s birthday is this Wednesday, January 24th, he will be five years old. We (venmo) this is an electronic way we send money to each of them $25 to celebrate their birthday. We had a fun family night- we went to the Leonhardt family and played games, it was a fun evening out for us to socialize with friends. Mike Leonhardt is the Mayor of Garden City. We are making good friends in our Bear lake community.
BYD Meeting
Sunday evening we hosted the -Bishop Youth Discussion at our home at 7 pm, all of the youth in the ward came to our home for our discussion. Craig was the leader in discussing the topic, he presented the theme for the year D&C 19 verse 23 -learn of me and listen to my words walk in the meekness of my spirit and you shall have peace and me. He gave us the history of section 19 a revelation that was given to Martin Harris who was a witness to the Book of Mormon and helping in the translation in bringing forth the printing of the Book of Mormon. Craig and I had the privilege of attending the Martin Harris pageant in Clarkston Utah this past summer where he has been buried. We were very touched in learning more about Martin Harris so grateful for his contribution in helping to bring about the Book of Mormon. The youth all had a great time, they enjoyed playing a game of pool in our game room afterwards. I made Jell-O cake and chocolate cake for our dessert we have had a very full Sunday and I am tired!
Busy Sunday
Sunday was very busy on my return home, my first meeting to attend the council at 7:30am. I had to get up early in time to wash my hair and be ready on time from there our sacrament meeting started at 9am. I greatly enjoyed my meetings Sunday. We gave the young women new journals this year Peace in Christ. I was excited to get my journal and look through it and see what the girls have been working on the past two weeks. We are all excited about using our journals this year and working on our values in young women’s, This month the number one value is faith in Jesus Christ and learning to establish the habit of prayer both morning and night, the girls already started working in their journals, it was exciting to see how my presidency had taken charge while I was out of town and got things organized we had a great lesson on Sunday. We split into two groups for the first time this month, Mia Maids our group of the older girls and our beehive group the younger girls for our lesson time sister Berning taught the lesson for the mia maids, we are learning about the Godhead- our theme for January, she did a great job in teaching learning to know God in our lives and recognize his hand and all things. I enjoyed our talks in sacrament meeting, we had a return missionary speak from Arkansas, he did a very good job- highlighting messages from our past prophet President Monson in keeping the Commandments in our lives- that gives us power and strength. Comments that I highlighted from his message is our decisions determine our destiny- in first Corinthians, there are many voices in the world our lives are precious and we must guard against deception. Living the Commandments of God brings us peace and happiness and helps us to resist and repentance in our lives brings us peace also in keeping the Commandments there is peace and safety- his message went very well with our lesson in young women's finding peace in our lives- peace in Christ. I was very touched by the thoughts that he shared. Brother Skinner talked about the temples we now have thru out the world 159 operating temples today and we each need to receive our own endowments, the ultimate goal of our heavenly father is to return back to him we need to receive our temple covenants. No sacrifice is too great to be able to receive our covenants from the temple. I am grateful for temple service in my own life and doing our family history, it is a lot of work, I need to attend the temple this week, I made a goal to attend the temple at least once monthly this year.
Sunday school we talked about the creation of the earth and its origin -Jesus Christ is the creator, there are 7 billion in the earth today and someone dies every five seconds there are more in the spirit world than actually here on earth so there is indeed lots of missionary work that continues on in the life here after. I have learned in the temple that the Savior was the creator of our earth that we live on this was reinforced in our Sunday school lesson the mission of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Highlights from our young women’s lesson, how do I get to know someone? The same actions we need to do in getting to know our heavenly father, as we come to know the Savior we come to know heavenly father they are both one in purpose. I want to know God- we learn by praying and listening to his word- his voice to us in our minds and hearts, Study the Scriptures and learn to hear the voice of God, to do God’s will, listen and act on the spirit, honor our covenants and keeping the Commandments, become like the Savior, Follow righteous mentors, getting to know God is a lifetime quest!! I feel peace by being in sacrament and attending all of my church meetings and reading in my scriptures, attending church has been a great battery charger for me spiritually feeding my soul!!

Snow Day
We had a big snowstorm come in on Friday night it looks like the Thomas grandkids got quite a bit of snow in the Salt Lake Valley. We didn’t get hardly any here at the lake very little, Tasha sent me these cute pictures of the kids playing in the snow.
Home Sweet Home
Craig and I left Thursday afternoon about 1:30 pm, we drove straight thru a long 12 hour trek to get home- we arrived about 3 AM in the morning. Feels good to be home and sleeping in my own bed I was beat from our long drive. Other than I didn’t sleep very well I woke up with a terrible headache, I spent the day cleaning and putting our Christmas away I have lots of decorations, it has been a lot of work, it’s taken me all day and Saturday to clean up the mess. I haven’t felt very well today. I'm very queasy and nauseous to my stomach. I have retired early to try to get a good nights rest, church is early in the morning, I have a 7:30am bishopric meeting to go to. I finally got things all cleaned up and tidy and feels nice to have things de-cluttered. I need to color my hair sometime before morning I have to get up really early in order to get it done, I’m just not feeling well enough tonight, fighting some type of a stomach bug.

Stacy is Doing Better
I can tell Stacy is feeling a little better today, she was up and moving around more. It was another busy day caring for the kids- Jude was out of school for Martin Luther King holiday today. I’m really tired tonight, ready to go to bed. I took a good walk around the park today and trying to burn some calories I’m getting so fat I have got to lose some weight. I don’t burn enough calories in the day if I don’t get out and exercise. It feels good to smell the fresh air, I love being close to the ocean, the air smells so good, it is very beautiful here, I drove around a little bit learning where a few places are and went to Costco for Stacy today.
Tribute To Our Beloved Prophet
Thomas S Monson passed away last week his funeral this last Friday I was able to listen in on LDS.org, he was greatly loved by millions of people throughout the world, he will be greatly missed. He passes away at 90 years old. Love his witty personality and the example he showed to us all by his loving kindness to all, theme of his life- listen to the Holy Spirit Daily to know who we should serve and help. Obey the promptings when thy come, do not hesitate.

Help Stacy Put Christmas Away
I helped get all the Christmas taken down today. Stacy has been too sick to do much of anything, we finally got it all taken down and packed away, I have been helping her do laundry, folding and putting things away. I have made some good progress since I’ve been in town, we went to the park this afternoon and we’re now going to take a drive to the beach to enjoy this beautiful sunny day, it is 80° today, so warm down here in good ol California, it feels good to have a winter break from the cold weather. I woke up this morning with men in the backyard cutting down the large pine tree that had fallen down in their yard cutting it out and putting in a trailer that’s when I figured we better hurry and get the Christmas tree down. They bought a live tree this year and you have to haul it off somewhere, so we might as well let them haul it off for us so we began the task, It’s a beautiful day here, the weather is about 80° we are going to take a drive to the beach this afternoon. Stacy is starting to feel a little bit better she’s been so sick going on three weeks now, I know she’s really appreciated having her mom helping her, I have enjoyed the darling grand kids, It is a lot of work for me.

Arrival To California
My trip to California was a safe arrival, I am so tired I rested on the plane between the different departures, the weather here is beautiful also nice to have sunshine and greenery with flowers all around me. I worked hard for the last two days trying to help Stacy get caught up around here cleaning and doing laundry, we’ve had fun trying the new I Robot vacuum out. It comes in very helpful with Stacy having young children, helps to alleviate some of the workload. Chad took the kids and I to see the movie Coco, is the most adorable movie I loved it. It is 78° here in California the weather is so beautiful I took a nice walk around the block today it felt really good and I’m beat tonight after another day of folding clothes and putting them away and helping Stacy take care of her kids. It wears me out. I'm no Spring Chicken!! I have to be really careful with my back.
Tasha & Bridger On A Crusise
They are having a great time Bridger got home on January 11th at 12:30 am, I flew out to California early that morning to help Stacy, I had to get up up at 4:30 am. Not much sleep.

Flying To California
Stacy is not doing well, she has been sick for over 2 weeks now, We never got to see her and the family over the holidays due to this illness. She started an antibiotic on Sunday and still not perking up. She needs her mother. Chad got me a plane ticket to come help out, moving on to another family to care for. Bridger got in late last night from their trip, Tasha gets home late Sunday night, she has a buyers market in LA. I’m feeling much better than I was a few day earlier. I had to spend the day cleaning up after the messes the grand kids made while I was sick on Monday & Tuesday. Little Annie is a messer she had dragged out all kinds of toys. I was vacuuming for over an hour, by the time I was done my back was killing me, I had to hurry take a shower and get to the chiropractor for an adjustment so I could help Stacy. Dr Campbell told me I have a herniated disk in my lower back, vacuuming is the worst thing for it, this is why it flared up so quickly. I’m going to have to be careful helping with Stacy's kids. I should not be lifting baby Enzo which is going to be hard. I’m sitting at the airport in Arizona waiting for my flight to California, on to a new adventure, it will be nice to be in some warmer weather and have some sunshine!!

At Gymnastic
I took Winn & Annie to their gymnastic class today it feels good to get out of the house. It is raining and cold today, but the fresh air feels really good. The kids are so cute.
Monday - I’m Sick
Darn! the bug that I have has knocked me down. I have just stayed in bed all day, I manage to get Winn to preschool at 9:00-am and picked him up at noon, I just slept most of the day. The kids played good so I could rest. They did make lots of messes with their toys. But they were good picking them up last night. We didn’t have family night I was too sick to manage it. I didn’t want the kids to get what I have so I tried to stay away from them. It is not fun to be sick, Chad called Craig yesterday wanting to know if I could come to California to help Stacy she is not getting better. Luckily I’m feeling a little better today. I took Winn & Annie to Gymnastics class today, they are so cute. It felt good to get out of the house after being cooped up all day yesterday. I just talked to Chad so I guess I’m going to California now on Thursday to help Stacy out. Just hope each day I keep feeling better. My life as a grandmother is giving service to my daughters in caring for their families. I'm so blessed that I have a family and that I can help. Pray for strength from this darn illness.
Sabbath Day
I woke up not feeling well. I’m fighting something. I feel very nausea and achie all over. I thought about staying home from church, yet if we did it was going to be a very long day. I muster up the energy to get us all dressed and to Church. I enjoyed all my meetings. Fast & testimony was very inspiring by the testimonies shared. I took the kids to their new primary classes for the year. Little Annie is in Sunbeams now. Three years old, she loves it. I enjoyed gospel doctrine, we are going to be studying the Old Testament this year. It was nice to be in Relief Society this week. The program for teaching has changed this year, the lesson time is choosing a topic and have open discussion learning a gospel principle that we can try to implement in our daily lives. This week we all talked about our Prophet Thomas S. Monson that just passed away on Monday evening. He has left such a great legacy of love by example his entire life. We are all going to miss him, he was the youngest apostle called and served for over 50 years. He was the prophet for 12 years. It was a great discussion. I manage to get thru all our church meetings, so glad that I attended, it was fun to see old friends in their ward that we have known for many years. We went to Panda Express for dinner. I'm going down fast and need to rest. Not feeling the best. We spent the rest of the day playing games and watching movies on Netflix.
Baby Sitting Thomas Kids
Tasha & Bridger left last Wednesday for a cruise, I’m at their home watching the kids. I was so tired from the new year weekend- we had to stay at the cabin a couple of days to clean things up from all the family. I was going to keep the kids at the cabin last week while Stacy was in town, their Family was all too sick to come up, we didn’t even get to see them this year for Christmas. They just drove back to California. I brought the kids to their home late Wednesday night. I didn't want them missing school. Craig came down on Thursday and Friday night to help out. We took Michael to lunch for his birthday on Friday. Craig left Saturday early afternoon. We had to get up early to take Lincoln to Basketball. It was picture day for his team, Lincoln made a basket fun to see him play from there we took the kids to McDonald’s for breakfast. We have been eating most of our meals out. They are having the entire upstairs wood floors re-done. The workers were there bright and early 6:00 am Thursday morning. It was very noisy so we were up early, Thursday night helped Lincoln with his home work, working on his spelling words. Craig left to head back to the lake Saturday. He needed to be back for church. Brother and Sister Taylor are having a rough time, Brother Taylor had a bad stroke and is very limited on what he can do it has affect his entire left side. This happened just a week before Christmas. This past week their grandson was rushed to Primary Children’s hospital sick, he has been diagnosed with cancer in the neck area, Craig went to the hospital on his way home to give him a blessing. Craig went over to play Farkle with brother Taylor it is a dice game which is good for him after his stroke, tying to get movement in his hand. He also took him to his Physical Therapy. Craig is an awesome home teacher to the Taylor family.

2018- Goals For The Year
Last Years goals and review-#1 Prayers morning and night more faithfully, need to improve, Craig and I have gotten way too lax in this area.#2 Daily scripture study, pray for the Holy Ghost to teach me things I need to know at this season
#3 Consistent workout schedule somehow, have got to lose at least 15 pounds and maintain it throughout the year.
#4 Making new friends in our new area, sustaining the Saints, building the kingdom of God in the Garden City 1st Ward.
#6 Send in my Ancestry DNA, learn about my heritage.
#7 Figure out my computer storage of pictures and document, learning how to edit and store family videos.
#8 I want to be a witness and testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ, wherever I go- thinking of him more in my daily life.
Need to read often and review my goals for 2018.
Reviewing last years goals to set new goals for 2018, #1 Saying our Daily Prayers as a couple, we did improve, but get lazy at night time. I get tired and just fall in bed, or we fall asleep to the TV, need to make a better effort in being more consistent. I have struggled my entire life saying morning a night. I do good at time and then I get lazy. Time to regroup again. I want to do better, Need to focus on it more daily, and then weekly.-- This a repeat goal for 2018
#2 Daily scripture study & praying for the Holy Ghost to teach me- I need to do better, I enjoyed teaching Primary lesson on Church History, until I was called as the young women's president, it is a constant- daily striving to do better!! Craig and I were 100% in attending our meeting this year for the first time in our entire marriage. I missed only twice and that was due to illness. Goal study the Old Testament this year and look for teachings of Jesus Christ in my reading.
#3 Consistent workout schedule somehow, have got to lose at least 15 pounds maintain it throughout the year. I have not lost any weight this year, just maintain, I have got to lose 10 for sure, make a plan to lose and try to maintain!!!
#4 Making new friends in our new area, sustaining the Saints, building the kingdom of God in the Garden City 1st Ward. ... We have made so many new friends and working hard to build the kingdom up in this part of the valley. Want to continue serving in my calling, I do love being the Young Women's president!! A calling I never thought would come my way especially at the age of 60 yrs old, guess we are never to old to serve. Goal to strength my laurel's and help them gain a testimony.
#5 Attend the temple at least once a month and continue working on my family history, continue working on scanning and organizing our family photos to a digital format, preserving our family history We strive to attend at least once a month with the distant of traveling to Logan to attend the temple is a challenge for us. We weren't a 100% but did fairly well, some months we attended several times, to make up for the few months we did miss. Summer is our biggest challenge with our busy life of family all summer long. I want to make sure we attend at least monthly, if not more. My family history I have made progress slowly, getting a new computer has helped, I'm serving at the Montpellier Stake family history Library weekly which helps to keep me on track. With my new calling it has made it more difficult to have the time. I'm taking pockets of time to work when I can, I have so much to do, yet making a contribution, I submitted over 100 ordinances that needed completion for ancestors, This year is completing them all.
#6 Send in my Ancestry DNA, learn about my heritage.- I did send in my DNA, I learned I have 25% Irish blood line, which I have work to do in this area. I'm a mixture of many bloodlines come to find out, call me a Mutt!! It was fun to find out. I"m excited to attend Roots Tech this year. Need to check on my ticket, I have prepaid to attend the conference the end of February this year 2018.

I received the most sweet messages from many friends on my special day
“Happy birthday to one of the finest gals on the planet!!! You really are just that, Deb. You are always a light and a bright spot in anyone’s day! Happy New Years too. The world celebrates with you! Deservedly so! You’re the best.” This is the sweetest note from brother Henrie in our old stake presidency that we moved from, everyone loves him too.

My 61st Birthday
I had a very nice birthday lunch, Trisha made café Rio and Jell-O cake it was yummy. Shar and Dave and the kids gave me some very nice presents, A new scarf vest, some gloves and Pj,s and a Apple Watch band for my new Apple Watch. Tasha give me a new jacket and Trisha and Buck gave me a pedicure certificate. We have had a fun weekend. Craig said I could get the new software I want for my computer it cost a $100, I have been wanting it since I got my new computer. The Chaudhry family were not able to make it or the Towner family. They all got sick and couldn't come up to the cabin. We didn't want to pass the bug around, Sad they couldn't come, feel really bad for the Towner's they drove all the way from California, got sick the first day at the Towner Cabin family gathering, they all became too sick to even come see us. We will have to take their presents to them, They are just going home- back to California.

Enjoying a Yummy Jello Cake!
Happy New Year 2018
